About Adult Support Groups
The adult support groups are the basic groups of Divorce Recovery. Most of the participants in
Divorce
Recovery groups attend these groups that begin twice each month in a variety of
locations throughout Tucson.
These education and support groups focus on the
Endings of the divorce transition with its resulting losses and grief. As can be
expected in a group that has a limited time to it, most participants resolve
only the fact that they are actually getting a divorce.
It is expected that most
of the participants will have to do additional work, either on their own or in
other groups, to accept the end of the marriage and saying, "goodbye."
Usually the adult support groups are 10 sessions of one and a half hours
each, but the time and number of sessions may change depending on available
leadership, size of group, time of the year, and desires of the participants.
The adult support groups are open for two weeks and then closed.
Leadership of these groups includes volunteer male and female co-leader
partners, at least one of whom has been divorced. Both of the leaders will have
completed the Group Leader Training and there is always an experienced leader as
co-leader when the other co-leader is inexperienced.
Meeting spaces are in a variety of locations. Over the years Divorce
Recovery has been fortunate to have many community partners - churches,
hospitals, social service agencies, schools - that have welcomed a group to
share their space.
It is not unusual for participants to attend more than one Divorce Recovery
group, and some of the people will go to two or more adult support groups. While
there is no limit as to the number of groups that a participant can attend,
participants are encouraged to attend some of the other options available rather
than continue to go from one adult group to another.
