Roy Martin learned about family law
the hard way. While in law school, he went through a difficult divorce and
custody battle of his own. Served with dissolution pleadings during
finals, his first two years of law school were dominated by a bruising legal
battle. He completed his studies, serving on law review, while also caring
for his two children as sole custodian. Despite these personal challenges,
he excelled academically and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He chose to
practice domestic relations law because, as a result of these trying
experiences, he saw first hand the huge impact divorce attorneys make (for
better or worse) in the lives of clients. His experiences as a divorcing
spouse, a parent and as an attorney have left him with a great deal of empathy
for those who are struggling with difficult divorce, custody and visitation
issues.
A founding member of the
Collaborative Law Group of Southern Arizona, Roy is trained in both mediation
and collaborative divorce. He believes that amicable, problem solving
approaches achieve results far better than anything a court can impose when
people are willing and able to work together. However, an amicable
approach requires the commitment of both spouses to negotiating in good faith.
When both spouses are not up to this challenge, traditional litigation is
sometimes necessary. For this reason it is important to consider the
full range of options, from amicable resolution to litigation, and then choose
the approach that is best suited to your family and situation. Mr. Martin
can help, both with that assessment, and with achieving the best possible result
while preserving as much of your financial and emotional resources as possible.
